The Greene County Youth Substance Prevention Coalition (GCYSPC) is a multi-sector partnership led by the Rural Alabama Prevention Center (RAPC). We work with schools, parents, youth, community leaders, and local organizations to strengthen prevention efforts and create healthier, drug-free environments for young people across Greene County.

Our Mission

To prevent and reduce youth tobacco, marijuana, and alcohol use by strengthening community collaboration, promoting protective factors, and implementing evidence-based prevention strategies that create sustainable, community-level change.

Substances Addressed 

Tobacco

(including vaping)

Prevention strategies that reduce youth access and change community norms.

Marijuana

Education and community strategies focused on reducing youth use and exposure.

Alcohol

Prevention strategies to reduce underage drinking and strengthen protective factors.

What We Do

  • Build strong collaboration across 12 community sectors

  • Use data to identify local risk and protective factors

  • Implement evidence-based prevention strategies 

  • Support youth leadership through a Youth Advisory Group

  • Promote healthier community norms and safe enviroments

  • Share prevention information, resources, and updates with the community

Youth Advisory Group 

GCYSPC includes a Youth Advisory Group made up of youth ages 12–18, including students from Greene County High School. Youth members provide valuable insight into peer norms and community needs, support prevention messaging, and participate in age-appropriate leadership activities. Youth participation is advisory and requires parent/guardian consent.

We welcome organizations and individuals across Greene County, including:

  • Schools and education leaders

  • Parents and youth

  • Healthcare professionals

  • Local government and public safety

  • Faith-based and civic organizations 

  • Businesses and community partners

  • Media and communication partners

  • Youth-serving organizations

  • Substance use prevention professionals
